About CLAT UG
What is CLAT UG?
Common Law Admission Test Undergraduate, or CLAT UG, is the Consortium of National Law Universities' entrance examination for admission to the participating NLUs' five-year integrated undergraduate law programmes. CLAT PG is a separate paper and remains a separate canonical page.
For CLAT 2027, online enrolment opens on 3 August 2026 and closes at 11:59 PM on 31 October 2026. The offline examination is scheduled for Sunday, 6 December 2026 from 2 PM to 4 PM, with the notified extended duration for eligible PwD candidates.
The Consortium says 26 NLUs participate in the cycle. A CLAT rank does not guarantee admission: applicants must also satisfy the programme, reservation, domicile, document and fee rules of the relevant NLU.

CLAT UG Preparation Strategy
A syllabus-first preparation route
- Read argumentative and explanatory prose daily and write one-sentence summaries, because four sections rely heavily on passage comprehension.
- Build a current-affairs revision system around reliable primary reporting and monthly consolidation rather than isolated trivia lists.
- Practise legal principle application from the passage without importing outside assumptions.
- Repair Class X arithmetic, ratios, algebra, mensuration and data interpretation, then practise small sets under time pressure.
- Take complete 120-question, two-hour papers and record errors by comprehension, knowledge, reasoning, calculation and selection.
- Use the −0.25 rule when deciding between an evidence-based attempt and a blind guess.
CLAT UG Books and Study Material
- Use the official Consortium instructions, question format and official previous-paper add-on or authorised resources as the exam source stack.
- Use one current-affairs revision system, one Class X quantitative foundation source and a compact passage-based reasoning practice source.
- Prefer timed official-format passages over books that mainly teach disconnected legal facts.
CLAT UG Previous Question Papers
Official question-paper resources
Attempt each official-format UG paper in two hours and score it at +1/−0.25/0.
Review the passage evidence for every answer; a correct guess without reasoning does not identify a repeatable skill.
