About JEE Advanced
What is JEE Advanced?
JEE Advanced is the entrance examination used for admission to undergraduate programmes at the Indian Institutes of Technology and other institutions that formally use its result. For 2026, IIT Roorkee was the organising institute.
Only candidates who meet the JEE Main Paper 1 shortlist condition and every other current eligibility condition may register. The examination has two compulsory computer-based papers covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; a candidate must appear in both papers to be considered for ranking.
The 2026 examination and result stages are complete and the admission process runs through JoSAA. Qualifying JEE Advanced does not guarantee a seat: programme eligibility, category documents, choices, seat availability and counselling rules still apply.

JEE Advanced Application Process and Fees
Official application route and fee details
The JEE Advanced 2026 registration window is closed. Eligible candidates registered separately on the JEE Advanced portal after the JEE Main Paper 1 result; JEE Main registration alone was not sufficient.
Candidates had to select examination cities, upload the required category or disability documents where applicable and pay the registration fee through the official portal.
For admission, qualified candidates must separately register on JoSAA, order programme choices, respond to allotments and complete document and fee requirements within each round.

JEE Main performance
Top 2,50,000
- A candidate must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1, subject to the official category distribution.
- Paper 2A or Paper 2B is not the qualifying paper for JEE Advanced.
- Being shortlisted does not waive the other four eligibility criteria.
Age
Born on/after 1 Oct 2001
- For 2026, the general birth-date condition was on or after 1 October 2001.
- SC, ST and PwD candidates received the stated five-year relaxation, corresponding to on or after 1 October 1996.
- Use the brochure's documentary rules for the exact category claim.
Attempts
Two consecutive years
- A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced at most twice in two consecutive years under the 2026 eligibility rule.
- Registering, appearing and prior-year history should be checked against the exact brochure wording.
- A later policy change should not be inferred from the 2026 rule.
Class XII appearance
First appearance in 2025 or 2026
- The first Class XII or equivalent appearance had to be in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, subject to the brochure's stated exceptions.
- An improvement attempt does not automatically change the first-appearance year.
- IIT admission also has performance and document requirements applied during counselling.

Prior admission rule applies
- A candidate generally must not have been admitted to an IIT under the prior-admission criterion stated in the 2026 brochure.
- The brochure contains limited treatment of specific cancelled or withdrawn-seat situations; do not summarise a complex case from memory.
- Candidates with any earlier IIT allotment or admission should read Criterion E in full.

JEE Advanced 2026 Result
Result and final answer key published
Current status: The official 2026 result press release reports 56,880 candidates qualified after 1,79,694 appeared in both papers.
A qualifying result makes a candidate eligible to participate in the relevant counselling process; it is not a seat allotment.
Use only the official result route and preserve the rank card. Category, programme and preparatory-course rank-list rules must be read in the current brochure.

Current status: JoSAA is the operative source for IIT programme choices, allotment and reporting deadlines.
Register on JoSAA, fill and lock choices, respond to each allotment and complete the seat-acceptance fee and document steps within the published window.
Freeze, float and slide decisions affect later rounds. Read the current business rules before selecting an option.
JEE Advanced Preparation Strategy
A syllabus-first preparation route
- Download the current syllabus and mark each topic as secure, developing or weak before selecting practice material.
- Build multi-concept problem solving after completing fundamentals; the exam commonly rewards linking ideas rather than recalling one formula.
- Practise official papers as complete two-paper days so concentration, food and recovery between sessions are tested before exam day.
- Read section instructions in every mock because marking may differ across question types and can include partial or negative outcomes.
- Review wrong, guessed and slow questions by cause—concept, algebra, reading or strategy—and revise the cause rather than only the answer.
- Keep counselling documents and programme restrictions ready while preparing; rank alone does not establish eligibility for every IIT programme.
JEE Advanced Books and Study Material
- Treat the JEE Advanced brochure, syllabus and official past papers as the source-of-truth set.
- Use NCERT Class XI and XII texts for chemistry facts and core foundations, then one rigorous problem source per subject that you can revise fully.
- Prefer depth and error review over collecting several overlapping advanced-problem books.
JEE Advanced Previous Question Papers
Official question-paper resources
Official papers are the best evidence of how concepts are combined and how section-specific instructions work. Attempt both papers from the same year on the same day.
Score only with that paper's published marking instructions; a generic +4/−1 rule can produce a false result.

What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
JEE Main Paper 1 is the qualifying route into JEE Advanced for the top eligible candidates and is also used by several non-IIT admission routes. JEE Advanced rank is used for IIT admissions through JoSAA.
Where should I check counselling deadlines?
Use the live JoSAA website. Round-level reporting and payment deadlines can change and should not be copied from an old calendar.
