About IIT JAM

What is IIT JAM?

Joint Admission Test for Masters, or IIT JAM, is the national computer-based examination used for admission consideration in specified postgraduate science programmes at IITs and for score-sharing routes published by participating institutes.

IIT Bombay organised JAM 2026. The examination was held on 15 February, results followed in March, and the additional/final admission round ran on 6 and 7 July. The official website states that the JAM 2026 admission process closed after that round.

JAM qualification does not guarantee admission, scholarship or employment. Candidates must satisfy the minimum educational qualification for each programme and the admission-round rules.

Official application route and fee details

The JAM 2026 examination and admission applications are closed. Future applicants should create a JOAPS account on the official organising-institute site, select one or two compatible test papers, upload compliant documents and pay the applicable fee.

A JAM result does not itself create an IIT admission application. Qualified candidates must later submit the separate admission form, programme choices and documents through JOAPS.

Programme minimum educational qualifications differ. Check the MEQ table before selecting a test paper or admission preference.

  1. Choose the paper after checking the MEQ table for target programmes.

  3. Analyse MCQ negative marks separately from MSQ all-or-nothing errors and NAT calculation errors.
  4. Prepare programme preferences using academic fit and MEQ, not rank estimates alone.
