About JEST

What is JEST?

The Joint Entrance Screening Test provides a common screening score for participating institutes offering PhD, Integrated PhD and selected research programmes in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science.

JEST 2026 was held on 12 April, and the result was declared on 30 April after the answer-key stage. A qualifying score does not itself confer a fellowship or seat; institutes apply their own eligibility and shortlisting rules.

The score remains valid until the declaration of the JEST 2028 result, but candidates must still meet the admission cycle and programme requirements of the institute to which they apply.

JEST Preparation Strategy

A syllabus-first preparation route

  1. Choose the subject and intended institute route before making a study plan.
  2. Solve the official Physics sample paper or TCS structure under the exact section timing.
  3. Use negative marking to decide when to leave a question.
  4. Prepare institute applications and research interests alongside the written test.

Official-first preparation material

  • JEST official sample paper
  • JEST eligibility and FAQ pages
  • Standard undergraduate and postgraduate subject texts
