About UGC-NET
What is UGC-NET?
University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, or UGC NET, is conducted by NTA to determine eligibility under the result categories stated in the current bulletin: Junior Research Fellowship with Assistant Professor and PhD admission, Assistant Professor with PhD admission, or PhD admission only.
The June 2026 computer-based examination was scheduled across 22–30 June. As of 2 August, the official homepage showed the latest June examination and admit-card notices but did not list a June 2026 provisional answer key, final key or result. This guide therefore leaves those dates unpublished.
The paper has 150 compulsory questions for 300 marks in one three-hour sitting: Paper I has 50 questions and Paper II has 100. There is no negative marking. Subject eligibility, postgraduate percentage, four-year bachelor's provisions and JRF age rules must be checked against the 2026 bulletin.

UGC NET Application Process and Fees
Official application route and fee details
The June 2026 application and correction windows are closed. A future candidate should choose the subject carefully, complete the official NTA account and form, upload compliant images and certificates and pay only through the live portal.
Candidates should ordinarily appear in the subject of their postgraduate degree, while the bulletin contains specific guidance where a postgraduate subject is not listed. Use the current rule rather than selecting a nearby subject by assumption.
Retain the application number, confirmation page and category or disability records. A successful form or admit card does not establish final eligibility.
| Candidate category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / Unreserved | ₹1,150 |
| General-EWS / OBC-NCL | ₹600 |
| SC / ST / PwD / PwBD / Third gender | ₹325 |
- Processing charges and taxes may be additional.
- Category certificates and OBC-NCL or EWS status must satisfy the current bulletin, not only the fee choice.
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
Qualification, age and other requirements
Master's degree route
55% or 50%

- Candidates with a four-year or eight-semester bachelor's degree require at least 75 percent or equivalent grade, with the bulletin's stated five-percent relaxation categories.

- It does not make the candidate eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor on that basis alone.
JRF age

- The JRF upper age is 30 years as on 1 June 2026.
- The bulletin provides category and circumstance-based relaxations that must be documented.

Subject selection
Postgraduate subject aligned
- Candidates should use the NET subject corresponding to their postgraduate field where listed.
- The bulletin explains what to do if the postgraduate subject is not included.

UGC NET Preparation Strategy
A syllabus-first preparation route
- Download the official Paper I and selected Paper II syllabi and convert each unit into a revision and testing checklist.
- Give Paper II proportional time because it carries 200 of 300 marks, while building dependable Paper I accuracy across all ten units.
- Practise complete 150-question papers in three hours without a break and use the no-negative-marking rule intelligently without rushing.
- For Paper I, alternate concept revision with short mixed data, logic, research and teaching-aptitude sets.
- For Paper II, use postgraduate foundations, official syllabus wording and spaced recall, then diagnose misses by unit.
- Prepare separately for the next objective—JRF process, institutional PhD admission or recruitment—because NET qualification is not the final appointment or admission.
UGC NET Books and Study Material
- Use the NTA bulletin, official Paper I syllabus and official UGC subject syllabus as the source-of-truth stack.
- For Paper II, use standard postgraduate texts already aligned with the official units and one revisable question source.
- For Paper I, use one current unit-wise reference and timed official-format practice instead of several overlapping guidebooks.
UGC NET Previous Question Papers
Official question-paper resources
Use the exact Paper II subject code when choosing official question resources and pair it with Paper I for a complete three-hour mock.
Because there is no negative marking, review skipped questions as well as wrong answers to identify missed scoring opportunities.
